James Richard Donahey's Obituary
James Richard Donahey, age 94 of Austell, formerly of Philadelphia passed away March 15, 2024.
Jim was an alumnus of the University of Iowa and member of Pi Kappa Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa. Jim was die-hard fan of the football team of his Alama Mater, the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He retired from the State of Pennsylvania Insurance Department as an Actuary after 10 years. Jim was a member of the Society of Actuaries, a global professional organization. While living in Philadelphia, Jim also worked for 25 years at Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Jim loved to live an active lifestyle, having completed many 10ks and half marathons. He was also an avid golfer, playing well into his late 80’s. Jim was quick with a smile and a joke. He was one of the nicest people you will ever have met, and you would never catch him without a piece of one of his most favorite things, chocolate!
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray McKinley Donahey; mother, Iva Luella Fisher Donahey; first wife of 44 years, Anna M. Holmes Donahey; brother, Robert Ray Donahey.
James is survived by his wife of 20 years, Susan Paxton Donahey; son, Paul R. Donahey of Ocean City, New Jersey; daughter, Carol Donahey Gardner of Jackson, SC; daughter, Linda Mooney of New Jersey; son, Michael Stephen Heuss and wife, Kathleen of Odenton, Maryland; daughter, Deborah Anne Mitchell and husband Christian of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Ryker and Stella Mitchell.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 11:00 AM at Smyrna First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chaloea Hale officiating.
