James Edward Collis' Obituary
James Edward Collis fondly known to many as “Jim” passed away Saturday morning, May 14 at Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, VA. He was surrounded by his wife of over 50 years, Janice Collis, his older sister, Mary Fox, and his only daughter, Cassandra Jackson.
Born in a small farm house in Loudon, TN, Jim made his way in his early teens with his family to Los Angeles, CA, where he met the love of his life Janice and graduated from Franklin High School. He served in the National Guard and began a long career in telecommunications eventually retiring from Sprint Communications with over 40 years.
Jim’s love for the outdoors brought him to duck blinds and various hunting fields with his favorite dog companions over his lifetime. A true “dog whisperer,” he was known for his skill in training dogs. Jim was also a accomplished trap and skeet shooter winning many local competitions. More recently, Jim and Janice moved from their longtime home in California to Hiram, GA to be closer to his sister Mary and her family and closer to his daughter. Last year, Jim and Janice made their way to Ashburn, Virginia to be closer to his daughter and her family. He is at peace after a struggle with dementia and a recent cancer diagnosis.
James is survived by his sister, Mary Fox of Hiawassee, GA; wife, Janice Collis of Ashburn, VA; daughter, Cassandra Jackson of Vienna, Virginia (husband, Dan Jackson); and three grandchildren, Harlan, Isabelle and Jacob Jackson.
Services will be held at Concord Baptist Church in Mableton, GA at 10 am on Saturday 5/21/22 followed by a graveside service at Union Fork Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Loudon, TN at 4pm.
