Jacqueline Rose Porter's Obituary
Jacqueline Rose Porter, beloved mother, friend, and Child of God, age 85 of Rome passed on to her Heavenly home July 6, 2025.
Jackie was born in Atlanta and raised by her loving parents, Wylie Allen Lee and Marjorine Ellis Lee. After graduating from Russell High School in East Point, Jackie excelled in the Bachelor of Business curriculum at North Georgia College. She recalled many fond memories from her time in college and cherished the experience.
Shortly after attaining her Bachelors, Jackie married Navy recruit Bennie Porter, Jr., and the two were stationed primarily in Old Lyme, CT. It was at this season of her life that she became a loving mother of two and she spent her energy making their life special. Once her children were a little older, Jackie became a legal secretary for Powell, Goldstein, Frazier, & Murphy, a position she adored and which fruited many beloved relationships with her coworkers.
Jackie was a charter member of Headland Heights Baptist Church in East Point and served as their first pianist. Later on, her letter was moved to Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and dearly loved singing in their choir.
Whether she was playing the piano or crafting ceramics, Jackie’s artistic talent shown through in everything that she did. She also treasured the outdoors, where she cultivated ornamental plants and played competitively on a tennis team. When she was not crafting or outside, you could find Jackie sharing a quiet moment with a book.
Jackie is preceded in death by her dear cousin, who was as close as a sister to her, Annette Whitmire.
She is survived by her children, Jeffery Porter (Susan) of Statesville, NC, and Marjorie Horton (Joel) of Rome, GA; along with many beloved extended family members, friends, and church family.
A funeral service honoring Jackie’s life will be held Wednesday, July 9th, 11:00 AM at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM before the service.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Jackie's memory be made to the Music Ministry at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, 561 Veterans Memorial Hwy SE, Mableton, GA 30126.
