J.T. "Jake" Akins' Obituary
J.T. “Jake” Akins, age 91, of Mableton passed away March 3, 2017. Jake retired from Globe Union after 30 years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II. Jake was a member of the Society of 40 men and 8 Horses. He was also a life member of the American Legion, and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jake is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Patricia Weir of Marietta, Tom (Beth) Akins of Atlanta, Bobby Akins of Marietta, and Anita Akins of Marietta; grandchildren, Kevin (Jennifer) Weir, Lisa (Ken) Jaquith, Keith Weir, and Alex Akins; eight great grandchildren, Lyndsay, Claire, Austin, Carson, Ella, Dayla, Colin, and Anna; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Monday, March 6, ¬ 3:30 PM at Barber Cemetery with Chaplain Jud Hanley officiating. The family will receive friends at from 12:00 to 3:00 PM before the service at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
