Imre Szilagyi's Obituary
Mr. Imre Szilagyi, age 74 of Smyrna, passed away on October 23, 2009. Mr. Szilagyi was a well respected glass blower and owned West Side Glass in Cleveland, Ohio. He invented and held several patents on mercury street lights and 6000 watt lamps that he developed while living in California and engineered the machine that replace the hand blown lamps. Mr. Szilagyi was an accomplished chess player with national ranking in his younger years. Also among his hobbies were reading and playing the stock market. Mr. Szilagyi was a Freedom Fighter in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. He was a wonderful grandfather and is survived by his children, Attila Edward Szilagyi and Emese Agnes Keegan, both of Smyrna; grandchildren, Shane Allen Szilagyi, Shannon Mary Keegan, Briana Rozalia Keegan, and Kyle Dakota Keegan; sisters, Magda Kelemen (Laszlone) and Aranka Kramer (Ferencne), both of Budapist, Hungary; and brother, Lajos Szilagyi of San Paolo, Brazil. Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 2:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with celebrant Rev. Jose Manjaly, M.S. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
