Glenn Callahan's Obituary
Mr. Glenn Callahan, Sr.,of Rome, GA, formerly of Lithia Springs, GA, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2009. Mr. Callahan served two years in the Army during the Korean war, where he earned the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, the United Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching and traveling with his children and grandchildren. He retired from B&W Transport and then retired from Austell Box Board. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Callahan was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Brewer Callahan. Mr. Callahan was a kind, gentle soul who will be greatly missed by his family, daughters, Millie and husband DeWitte Thompson, Duluth, Nancy and husband Rick Robinson of Rome; one son, Glenn Callahan, Jr. and wife JoAnn of Resaca; sister, Hazel Coleman, and brother, Ernest Callahan, both of Villa Rica; three grandsons, De Thompson, Beau Robinson and Cleve Callahan; three granddaughters, Taylor Thompson, Lisa Callahan and Amber McReynolds; seven step-grandchildren, Ricky and Randy Robinson, Diana and Rocky Meeks, Becky Abernathy, Kayla and Crystal Smith; six great-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. The measure of a man's life is, in part, by how much he will be missed. By that measure, Glenn was a great man, and this world will be a poorer place from his absence. Glenn was greatly loved by his family and especially by his grandchildren. Glenn was a Christian by example. He did not talk the talk, but he tried hard to walk the walk. He is with God now, and he would never ask for more that than. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 8th, at 3:00 PM with Rev. Ken Hennesey officiating. Interment will be in Powder Springs Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday from 12:00 - 3:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences and memories may be made at www.davisstruempf.com.
