I worked with Gil for several years when I was at AFD #7, I enjoyed his wit and good humor. Most of all he was a Firemans' Fireman. God rest his soul.##imported-begin##Frank Ramsdell##imported-end##

Few people could tell a story and fill it with humor as Gill could. He would welcome you and make you feel at home immediately. I respect and admired his love for hunting. I will always be proud of the turtle shell call he made and gave to me. I hope he will leave a few birds, for me, when I get up there with him. May God bless Gill, His Family and Friends.##imported-begin##Terry and Sharon Hughes##imported-end##
I have known "Manerd" all my life but we became very close friends these past few years. He was one of a kind. Gil could tell stories for a solid week and never tell the same one twice. He made friends everywhere he went. He lived a full, rich life. I will miss him dearly.##imported-begin##Chris Henson##imported-end##
Gil and I became friends in high school and have remained life long friends. He was a great person and his story telling was the best. I will surely miss him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May your special memoies bring you comfort. God Bless you all.##imported-begin##L.Wayne Roberts##imported-end##
My fire service career started in the City of Atlanta Fire Department in 1981 and one of my first instructors was Gil Manor. I later had Gil when he was on the faculty of DeKalb Community College. Gil was a consumate professional. I have fondly thought of Gil in my past 22 years with the City of New York Fire Department. He will be missed.

I knew him as Captain Gil Maner and we worked together at the Atlanta Fire Academy. His good humor, common sense and genuine concern for the 'rookies' made him a natural for his work at the Academy. There are many firefighters, myself included, that were better at their work because of Gil. I know his family is very proud of him and deservedly so. He was a great guy will be missed.##imported-begin##Lou Cuneo, Former Deputy Chief, Atlanta Fire Department##imported-end##
Captain Manor was assigned to training when I was hired on to Atlanta Fire in 1981. He was the best, a true firefighter and a class gentleman. More should have followed his example.##imported-begin##Steve Skaggs##imported-end##
Although I came out of retirement to accept the chief's position with Forsyth County, I will always most fondly remember (beginning in 1968) working with Gil in Atlanta. He always gave the impression that he was tough as nails (and when it came to firefighting, he was) but for those who knew him best, one could see he was really a kind-hearted man. I miss him already.##imported-begin##Fire Chief Danny D. Bowman##imported-end##
