George Herman Couch Jr.'s Obituary
George Herman Couch, Jr., age 73, of Dallas and formerly of Austell passed away March 20, 2024.
George was born to George and Helen Couch in Atlanta, and was raised in Mableton. After graduating from Pebblebrook High School, George worked for J. Allen Couch & Son Funeral Home. During the years of 1970 to 1973, George proudly served his country in the United States Army. In 1977, George took a job at Cobb Hospital, where he met the love of his life, Doris Bledsoe. The two married later that year. George retired from Cobb Hospital after almost 40 years of service.
George was an avid sports fan, and loved rooting for the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed watching old movies and bird-watching.
George was a life-long member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. In earlier years, he was quite active within the church, serving as Sunday School teacher and member of the Outreach Committee. George’s faith ran deep and showed in how he treated others. He is remembered for his kindness and compassion towards everyone, regardless of your position in life. He is a beloved husband, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who love him.
George is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Doris Bledsoe Couch; siblings, Peggy Calvin of Marietta, Cynthia (Glen) Spurlock of Chester, VT, Maymie (Craig) Chapman of Marietta, Jeff (Roslyn) Couch of Acworth, and Chip (Sandi) Couch of Buchanan; sisters-in-law, Mary Bledsoe of Austell, Elvie Sanders of Dallas, Ann Henry of Powder Springs, Jaynie Pickins of Dallas, and Dot (Jim) McPherson of Dallas; special friends, Bobby and Peggy Hines; and many beloved, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and church family.
A funeral service honoring George’s life will be held Saturday, March 23rd, 11:00 AM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Dr. Randal Whitten officiating. Interment will follow the service at Powder Springs Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, and on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
