George Edwin Aldridge's Obituary
George E. Aldridge, age 82, of Marietta passed away May 6, 2015. He was retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 613 and a member of the Embry Hills church of Christ. He is survived by son Tod & Karen Aldridge of Houston, Texas, daughter Greg & Stephani Aldridge-Duff of Marietta, three grandchildren: Austin, Tanner, and Aaron Aldridge, 2 sisters and a brother.
George was one of ten children born to Austin and Silla Aldridge of Glen Allen, Alabama in 1932. He came from humble means during the Great Depression, frequently plowing fields with a mule on the family farm. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia when a young man, where he graduated from Decatur High School and DeVry Technical Institute. He then completed an apprenticeship to become a journeyman electrician. After retiring, he moved back to Alabama.
George loved working his hands and building things. He was a licensed pilot who built a Thorp T-18 airplane and owned several aircraft, which he loved to fly. George was proud of his work at many of Atlanta’s landmarks and important buildings during his long career as an electrician. He was a ham radio operator and United States Army veteran. To his daughter’s delight, George had recently moved to Marietta to live with her and her husband Greg. He was a faithful Christian for many years that prized his friendships with fellow Christians in Atlanta and Foley, Alabama. George was a devoted and deeply beloved father.
