Frederick Patrick McGinnis
(1921-2012)
Fred P. McGinnis, a native Atlantan, dedicated his life in service to others and
excelled as a Methodist minister, college president, and human services executive.
Born Atlanta, January 9, 1921.  Graduated, Fulton High School, Atlanta, 1939; Asbury College, Wilmore Kentucky, A.B. 1945, Asbury Seminary B. D, 1948.
Married Harriet Riggs McGinnis in 1948, surviving him, residing in Austell, GA.
Children:  Bryan Timothy McGinnis (1949), of Alexandria, VA; Mari McGinnis Borgen (1955) of Austell, GA.
Grandchildren: Arik Abel, Raleigh, NC, Justin Borgen, Fairbanks, AK; Kendra Riggs Borgen, Amsterdam, Netherlands,.  Great-granchildren:  Kenai, Bailee, and Audrey Borgen, Fairbanks, AK.
Methodist minister:  Quincy, Ohio, 1948-1950; Juneau, Alaska, 1950-54; First Methodist Church, Anchorage, Alaska; Superintendent of Alaska Mission, 1955-59.
President, Alaska Methodist University, Anchorage, 1960-1970.
Commissioner, Alaska Dept. of Health and Social Services, 1970-74, Deputy 1974-1982.
Director, Office of Aging, State of GA, 1984-94, appointed by Gov. Harris.  Retired 1994 in Marietta, GA.
McGinnis passed away on September 2, 2012, in Austell, Georgia,.  Services will be held at Bethany Methodist Church, Smyrna at 11 AM, Saturday, September 8, 2012   Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
