Frances Ann O'Shields' Obituary
Frances Ann O’Shields, affectionately known as “Goose,” passed away on January 19, 2026, at the age of 82.
Frances was a lifelong resident of Cobb County, where she built deep roots and lasting friendships. She graduated from South Cobb High School, where she was known for her athletic talent and competitive spirit. An accomplished basketball player, Frances excelled on the court and earned the nickname “Goose,” a name that stayed with her throughout her life and was spoken with fondness by those who knew her best.
Following her graduation, Frances dedicated 30 years of faithful service to the United States Post Office, retiring as a mail carrier. She took great pride in her work and was known for her reliability, strong work ethic, and the relationships she formed along her routes.
Frances is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Elliott O’Shields; son and daughter-in-law, John and Karen Burge of Martinez, GA; sister, Arlene Reece; grandchildren, John “JT”Burge II and Jaclyn Ingram; 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday 1:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Roper officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM.
