Frances W Crowder's Obituary
Frances W. Crowder age 84, of Atlanta, passed away September 19, 2015, due to a prolonged illness of Alzheimer’s. She was a resident of Presbyterian Village in Austell, Georgia. She lived in Boston, Massachusetts for eight years as a child, five years in Columbus, Georgia and the balance of her life in metropolitan Atlanta.
She was the daughter of Granger and Pauline Carver Wooddall of Atlanta. She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Crowder, following sixty-seven years of a happy and devoted marriage.
She was a graduate of Southern Business College in Atlanta and served as a legal secretary. Later she continued her education, receiving her undergraduate degree at Columbus State University and her Master’s degree at Georgia State University. She graduated summa cum laude for her undergraduate degree and magna cum laude for her Master’s in Education. Frances taught school for nineteen years at Roswell and Woodland Elementary schools.
She and her husband were both musically inclined. They served as a music team in several Atlanta churches, he serving as a song leader and her at the piano or organ both in a lay capacity.
Mr. & Mrs. Crowder were predeceased by their son, Steven, who passed away as a result of a mountain fall in the North Georgia Mountains; and her only sister, Dr. Jackie Johnson of Atlanta. She is survived by two nephews, Jay (Alice) and Chris (Beverly) Johnson both of Atlanta; and two sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Charles) Holland of Fort Worth, Texas , and Helen Conley of Powder Springs, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
Mrs. Crowder volunteered in the baby clinic at Central Presbyterian Church and General Services at North Fulton Regional Hospital. She taught Sunday school in several churches. She also served as President of her Homeowners Association in Roswell. She was an active member of Roswell United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Roswell United Methodist Primetimers Senior Choir.
She and her husband were avid golfers, bridge players. They did extensive traveling, having visited Europe, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, a majority of the U. S. A, and took several Caribbean cruises.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Roswell United Methodist Church with Seekers Class as honorary escorts with Rev. Harry Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at a reception following the service. Interment will be a private family burial at Westview Cemetery. At a later date, a memorial service will be held a Presbyterian Village in Austell, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to be made to Christian City Convalescence Center, 7300 Lester Rd, Union City, Georgia or Wesley Woods, 1821 Clifton Rd, Decatur, Georgia or a contribution of choice.
