Floyd Mitchell Matthews' Obituary
Floyd Mitchell Matthews passed away at home peacefully yet unexpectedly on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Born in Cobb County to Floyd Mitchell Matthews and Betty Fleeman Matthews in 1966.
To everyone who knew and loved him, he was simply Mitch – a name that came to signify a boundless love for his family and a relentless work ethic.
Mitch cherished his children and was a wonderful Dad. Brittni and Andy were his entire world. They grew up knowing they were fiercely loved and safely protected by their hero.
Mitch started his first company at 18 years old and continued to have a successful general contracting career. When he wasn’t busy building, Mitch loved to go fishing, hunting, or golfing. His most cherished hobby, however, was spending time tending to his garden.
Mitch was a great man. He never knew a stranger and would do anything for anyone. He wasn’t scared of anything and had even mentioned to his family that he was not afraid of dying because he knew where he was going.
Mitch is preceded in death by his parents and the mother of his children, Teri.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Brittni, son Andy, his brother and best friend David, and extended family.
A memorial service honoring Mitch’s life will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Thomas Blagg officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service Sunday from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM.
