Emma retired after 19 years as a dedicated supervisor at the Tommy Nobis Center at Lockheed. She also spent several years in the cleaning industry, where her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence shone through.
Cooking was one of Emma’s greatest passions, and her skills in the kitchen were unmatched. Her apple pie and dressing were the centerpiece of every family gathering, with everyone eagerly awaiting a taste of her pies or sweet potato custards. But what made her cooking even more special was the joy it brought to those around her.
Emma also had a few beloved pastimes that she never missed. She could often be found enjoying her favorite soap operas or keeping her mind sharp with the latest puzzle book. She also loved spending hours on the phone catching up with family and friends. Her infectious laughter could turn a simple chat into a cherished memory, and with her feisty spirit and knack for keeping it real, she always brought both honesty and warmth to every conversation. Her love of old westerns, sci-fi movies, and the occasional trip to the casino brought her joy and adventure.
Emma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Monroe Johnson; her son, James Michael Lowe, Sr.; her daughter, Kathleen Newell; her sister, Linda Zellars; and her brothers, Willie Howard and Franklin Lowe.
She leaves behind a large and loving family, including her sons, Steve Johnson, Timothy Johnson, and John Johnson; her daughter, Karen Johnson; her brothers, Joseph Lowe, Charles Lowe, Willie James Lowe, and Henderson Boknight; and her sisters, Odessa Robinson and Betty Jo Hill. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
