Emily "Emmie" Harris D'Onofrio's Obituary
Emily “Emmie” Harris D’Onofrio, age 90, of Smyrna passed away May 24, 2024.
Emmie was born to Troy Page Harris and Allie Estelle Harris (nee Jones) in Stockbridge, GA. After graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1950, Emmie felt called to the city to pursue a medical career. From assisting surgeons in the operating room to collecting insurance and managing doctors’ offices, Emmie gained a wealth of experience in her 62-year career and was considered the backbone and matriarch of the family. She was truly passionate about what she did and said she "flunked retirement." She simply did not know what to do with herself, which led her into working part-time for Floral Creations in Smyrna. She also volunteered at Delmar Gardens and Atria of Mableton. Emmie was a hardworking, tireless spirit.
Emmie is preceded in death by her husband, Harry D’Onofrio. She is survived by her children, Sandra Massello (Alan) of Canton, Barry Dillard (Vickie) of Dallas, Angela Brayfield (David) of Acworth, William Dillard of Louisville, CO; and brother, Daniel Harris (Vicky) of Monticello. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Barron (Jeanne), Paige Barron, Shane Massello (Jennifer), Chad Massello, Kerry Gunter (Dallas), Rachel Dillard (Roger), and Barry Dillard, Jr (Katie), Clint Dillard (Erin); fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many beloved extended family and friends.
A service honoring Emmie’s life will be held Thursday, May 30, 11:00 am at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Dr. Kent Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow the service at Kennesaw Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am before the service.
