Elizabeth "Liz" Atherton Clement's Obituary
Elizabeth "Liz" Atherton Clement, age 83, of Winter Haven, FL and Marietta, GA passed away on May 5th, 2011. She was born on February 11, 1928, in Birmingham, AL, to the late Irving and Frances de Garis. Her family moved to Georgia where she attended school and graduated from the University of Georgia. Liz enjoyed a lifelong passion for art and was noted for her pen and ink sketches of historical homes in Marietta. In 1976, she collaborated with Meredith Rambo on "A Selection of Nineteenth Century Homes in Historic Marietta, Georgia". She was an avid gardener and a member of the Cherry Laurel Garden Club, a member and past president of the Junior League of Cobb Marietta, and a life long member of the First United Methodist Church of Marietta. She is survived by her husband of 11 years, Major General Robert W. Clement of Winter Haven, FL. She was predeceased by her first husband L. Howard Atherton, Jr. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Irving de Garis and wife Reba of Carrollton, GA; children Jim Atherton, Mary Frances Williams, and Nancy Lewis and husband Mark Lewis all of Marietta; grandchildren Nicholas Williams of Philadelphia, Ben Williams, Sam Lewis and Elizabeth Lewis all of Marietta. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday May 13, First United Methodist Church of Marietta. The family will receive friends at a reception at the church following the service.
