Eileen is my aunt. My earliest memory of her was cozying up to her on our family sofa- I must have been 4-5 years old... She was SO glamourous--make up, DRESSED and smelled amazing. Her jewelry was my favorite-especially her RINGS. And FUN.(she drove an MG- how cool was that?) Growing up, I never recall her coming over empty handed- food, gifts, you name it. Generosity flowed from her like breathing does for the rest of us. Her wit was acute, but not mean. And her laugh. That gorgeous laugh. Was there anything better?
I think what I admired most about her is how much she loved my mom. She and Uncle Lou took my mom into their home at the age of 14-15 and became the parents she never really had. She never forgot that. What always struck me about their sister bond over the years was the degree of pure acceptance of each other -no judgement; only appreciation. And love. So much love.
When Aunt Eileen left Texas 7 years ago, she was excited to join her family in Georgia, and while it was tough to see her go, we were happy to see her enjoy her retirement after years of devoted service to the elderly, in a beautiful home that her children provided for her. I cannot think of a more caring and devoted son and daughter than Greg and Becky. You have our complete admiration and respect. And her granddaughters and great grandson! Do you know how much she BRAGGED about you? She was SO INCREDIBLY PROUD of each and everyone of you! Over the years, her first order of business would be to sit down at our kitchen table, coffee in hand, and take out countless photos and share stories....over and over. She loved you all so....
The planet will not feel the same without you on it, Aunt Eileen. Thank you for all that you gave to so many. Rest in Peace. And may God bless your beautiful soul.
I love you,
Rebecca
