E.G. Wylie's Obituary
Elmer Gladney “E.G.” Wylie, Jr., of Marietta, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the age of 86.
E.G. proudly served his country in the United States Army and the United States Air Force, in both World War II and the Korean War. He was the founder and owner of Carter Concrete and Wylie’s Insulation. He was a builder and a developer. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. E. G. was a member of Orange Hill Baptist Church and was baptized there when he was 16 years old by his uncle, Preacher Howard Walker.
E.G. is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara “Bobbie” Wylie; children, Greg Wylie of Marietta, Mike Wylie of Hiram, Phil Wylie of Rockmart, Scott Martin of Boise, ID, Sheila Wylie Earwood (& husband, Terry) of Simi Valley, CA, Debbie Martin Smith (& husband, Greg) of Powder Springs, Sheila Martin Hingerlighter (& husband, Larry) of Clear Water, FL; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Nora “Betty” Moon (& husband, Harold) of Acworth, Juanita Keith (& husband, Alton) of Powder Springs; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4 until 8 PM. The funeral service to honor his life will be at Davis-Struempf Chapel on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Barry Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in Powder Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Cumming Hospice House, 8013 Majors Road, Cumming, GA 30041. Arrangements are entrusted to Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory, Austell.
