Doris Olean Bratton's Obituary
Doris Olean Bratton, 91, of Austell, GA, went to Heaven on 7/25/2025. Olean was born in 1934 to Sarah Littleton and George Littleton in their home in Jemison, AL.
Olean is one of eleven children. She enjoyed helping her father with his grocery store by stocking and bookkeeping. As a young girl, she went to music school and could play the piano using shape notes. She would get up early in the morning to pick cotton before going to school. After school, she would help with dinner and clean the house. She was an excellent seamstress. She made clothes for her twins and excelled at making window treatments.
In August of 1953, she married Richard H. Bratton, Sr. of Thorsby, AL. They eventually moved to Savannah. In 1956, Olean and Richard welcomed twin daughters, Donna and Wanda. Then, in 1963, they had a son, Richard Huey Bratton Jr. The family moved to the metro Atlanta area. Olean was a stay-at-home housewife and mother. After the children got older, she worked at Winn-Dixie grocery store as a head cashier and bookkeeper. She then went to work for SunTrust Bank as a bookkeeper, where she retired.
Olean enjoyed going camping in their RV with her family. She was an amazing Southern cook. She really knew how to cook those vegetables like a true southerner.
Olean had a servant’s heart. If you didn’t have a mama, she would be your mama. If you visited her home, she would be sure you had a full meal and a clean bed to sleep in. She helped with VBS at church and served on a number of committees. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, Amanda, Luke, and Josh, and her great-grandbaby, Banks Bratton.
Olean Bratton is predeceased in death by her husband, Richard H. Bratton, Sr.; her son, Richard Huey Bratton, Jr.; parents, George and Sarah Littleton; three sisters, Onzella Avery, Olys Nell Horton, and Orell Hilyer; five brothers, Owen Littleton, Ocie Littleton, Odis Littleton, Obie Littleton, and Onell Littleton.
Survived by one sister, Orma Jean Mims and one brother, Orville Littleton; daughters, Donna James (Skip), Wanda Peratta (Bill); granddaughter, Amanda Hartley (Gunnar); grandsons, Josh James, Luke Bratton (Robyn); and great-grandson Samuel Banks Bratton.
