Dixie Horton Stancil's Obituary
Dixie Horton Stancil, age 88, lovingly referred to as “Mema”, of Austell, GA passed away on the morning of March 19th, 2024. Dixie was a very strong and sweet lady who loved her family. She grew up and attended school in Gainesville, GA. She was previously married to W.O. Horton, Jr. and lived in Austell, GA for over 60 years. Dixie worked with The Sears Robuck Co., Braceland Brothers Printing, and Georgia Power. She had a great love of gardening, travel, tropical sunrises, Georgia Bulldogs, NASCAR racing, western movies, her numerous pets, and animals of all kinds. She never saw a challenge that couldn’t be overcome, including an incurable bone cancer which she heroically fought for 17 years. She took great pride in helping others and was a caregiver to several people throughout her life.
Dixie is survived by her brother, David (Phyllis) Stancil; her two sons, Wes (Lisa) Horton and Wayne Horton; and her beloved grandchildren, Lana, Christian, and Josh.
