Delma Mae Allen's Obituary
Delma Mae Allen, beloved mother, grandmother, and Child of God, age 95, passed away peacefully March 19, 2025.
Delma was born in Austell to General Fonnie Waits and Willie Estell Waits (née Melton). She graduated from Mableton School, where she played on the basketball team. At the age of 16, Delma began working at Woolworth’s in downtown Atlanta, and retired from there after 48 years of service.
Faith was the cornerstone of Delma’s life. She was a devoted member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church for over 80 years. She loved children ministries and taught Sunday School, VBS, and Mother’s Morning Out.
Delma was also a member of the Shrinette’s on Veteran’s Memorial Highway.
Delma is preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Allen; and son, Byron Allen.
She is survived by her son, Owen Allen of Marietta; grandchildren; Heather Allen, Emily Justice (Matthew), Kimberly White (Matt), and Karen Allen; great-grandchildren, Julie, Harper, John, Ellison, and Madelyn; daughter-in-law, Susan Allen Hall; and many beloved extended family and friends.
A funeral service honoring Delma’s life will be held Sunday, March 23rd, 3:00 PM at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Harmony Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
