David A. Rollins' Obituary
David A. Rollins, age 69, died peacefully with family by his side on May 22, 2024, at WellStar Cobb Hospital near his home in Douglasville, GA. He was born on September 3, 1954, in La Plata, MD, the son of James P. and Anna C. Rollins. David graduated from La Plata High School in 1972 and attended Charles County Community College for one year. He then worked for the Charles County Parks and Recreation Department and Mitchell Supply Company in La Plata before relocating to the Atlanta Area in 1982. He briefly worked as a manager for Hardees Restaurants before beginning a career with the United Parcel Service. David retired from UPS in 2015 after thirty years of dedicated service.
David was a devoted father and was committed to his extended family. His family heritage was extremely important to him. David was a loving, kind, fun, and caring man. He was a loyal friend and always there to help others whenever needed.
In addition to loving his family, David’s biggest passion was sports- particularly baseball and golf. He played high school and college baseball and was an All-Star performer in the Charles-St. Mary’s (MD) Men’s Baseball League. He was also an avid supporter of his son Paul’s travel baseball team. Golf trips with his dad and brothers were annual highlights for several years. He was a big fan of the Washington Redskins before moving to Atlanta and adopting the Braves, Falcons and Hawks as his home teams.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Anna, and his older brother James William (Bill) Rollins. David is survived by the mother of his children, Jeanne Jahner Rollins, and his two sons Paul Mercer, age 24, and John H. Joseph, age 18, of Hiram, GA. A brother, Phillip D. Rollins, of Woodstock, MD, and Brenda G. (Rollins) Newman of Charlotte Hall, MD.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 28th from 2-5 PM at the Wicomico Shores Golf Course Banquet Room in Mechanicsville, MD. Those who wish to remember David in a special way may honor his memory with donations to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
