Curtis Wendell Walker's Obituary
Curtis Wendell Walker of Austell, GA passed away on February 28, 2018 at the age of 89. Wendell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anne McLendon Walker, four daughters: Debora (Doyle) Holbrook, Susan (Dennis) Hall, Leslie (David) Greene, and Merri (Dale) Hubbard, 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and sister Doris (Jesse) Bell. He was proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters, Joyce Moore and Carol Lee, and son-in-law, Byron(Susan) Allen. Wendell was a United States Army veteran. Professionally, he was a residential and commercial builder in the Atlanta area. He enjoyed gardening, feeding the backyard birds, working puzzles, and helping his wife host Thursday night family dinners. He could always be found working on building projects around his house or yard, and helping his family and friends on projects for their homes. He was a member of Lake Forrest Camping Club at Lake Allatoona for over 50 years, where he enjoyed camping and boating. He was a member of Mt. Harmony Bapist Church for 51 years, where he served as a deacon. During his time there, he was instrumental in many facility upgrades, improvements, and maintenance. He used his construction skills and knowledge to lead the church youth on many mission trips where they provided home maintenance services for many families. Due to his many facility contributions, the pavilion at the church was named in his honor. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 1st from 4:00-8:00 pm at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home in Austell. The funeral will be Friday, March 2nd at 11:00 am at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Mableton, GA with interment at Georgia Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund.
