Claude C. Strickland Jr.'s Obituary
Claude C. Strickland Jr. passed away September 30, 2012 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ann. He was a native of Lithia Springs, GA and served in the U.S. Army.
He began his career at Austell Box Board Corporation, now Caraustar Industries where he was in charge of purchasing and maintenance of all rolling equipment. Later he worked as Vice President of B & W Transport Company in Austell. When they moved their operation to Dover DE, Claude went to work at Sewell Supply Company in Atlanta, retiring in 1987.
His hobbies included restoring old Ford tractors, fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, playing golf, gardening, and maintaining his 14 acre home place.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Austell.
His survivors include his four daughters , Diane Strickland Evans, Linda Strickland Messer and her husband C Douglas Messer, Peggy Strickland Landrum and her husband Donald R Landrum, Ginger Strickland Gee and her husband Charles E Gee, Grandchildren, Carrie Messer Weir and her husband Elliott H. Weir, Daniel P. Landrum, Matthew S. Landrum, Chandler B. O’Neal, Jeffrey D. O’Neal, Jr. , Charles A. Gee, Michael A. Gee, and Great Grandchildren, Travis E. Weir, Tyler D. Weir and Kason T. Landrum. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Strickland Coffee and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Strickland MacLean and brother William (Billy) Strickland.
Donations may be made to the Austell First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday October 2 from 12 – 2 PM. The funeral service to honor his life will be held at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM following visitation, with Rev. Michael Martin officiating.
