Dr. Charles Amon Yates' Obituary
Dr. Charles Amon Yates, Jr., age 78, of Hiram passed away surrounded by his family on August 20, 2020. Charles was established in church community in metro-Atlanta, having pastored churches in East Point, Rome, Mableton, Austell, and Carrollton. He also served the Lord by being the director of Builders for Christ at West Metro, being on the Board of Directors for Sweetwater C.A.M.P, being on the Board of Directors and teaching at Cumberland Christian Academy, and taught bible school and Continuing Witness Training classes at West Metro. Additionally, he was a member of the IBEW Local 613 since he was 17 and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Amon and Dorothy Yates; and sister, Sandra Yates-Grizzard. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joanne Brewer Yates of Hiram; children, Crystal Yates Ussery (husband, Michael) of Powder Springs, and Darin Scott Yates (wife, Pamela) of Cincinnati, OH. Grandchildren, Cameron West, Cailyn West, Tommy Yates, Maya Yates, Brandon Ussery, Amelia Ussery, and Mason Ussery; great-grandson, Kingston. Sisters, Barbara Yates Hamm (husband, Harvel) of Carrollton, and Debbie Yates Collins (husband, Nathan) of Carrollton; as well as several nieces and nephews and beloved extended family.
Private family services to be held. Interment, Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Go Fund Me at https://gf.me/u/ypf23h be made to cover medical expenses.
