Charles Edward Crowder's Obituary
Charles Edward Crowder passed away May 8, 2026. He was a native of Atlanta and a lifelong resident of Atlanta except for five years in Columbus, Georgia. He was the son of Virgil Grady and Alice Meek Crowder.
Charles was educated in Atlanta public schools, the University of Georgia, and Georgia State University. He completed studies at the Institute of Chamber of Commerce Executives. He served as Chief Executive manager of Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia Chambers of Commerce. As CEO of the Atlanta Chamber, he served as the president of the Atlanta magazine.
After 19 years in the chamber field, he served as Executive Director of the Georgia Agribusiness Council for 13 years. He ended his career serving six years as Executive Director of business boards of the state examining boards under Secretary Max Cleland.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances, and son, Steven. He was married to Frances for 68 years. They were both musically inclined, he serving as song leader and her at the piano at several Baptist and Methodist churches over 50 years.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister; Grady, Emory, James, and Jeanette. He is survived by one sister, Helen of Powder Springs, Georgia. He also has many surviving beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family for visitation on Saturday, May 16th at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home from 10:00 - 11:00 am.
A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Chaplain Chris Moore-Keish and Rev. Charles Holland officiating.
His cremated remains will be laid to rest at Westview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to be made to the Christian City Convalescent Center, 7800 Lester Road, Union City, Georgia, or the Presbyterian Village, 2000 East-West Connector, Austell, Georgia.
