Carter Samples was one of the nicest people I have met. Simply put, "he was a good man".
I have so many childhood memories of Uncle Jr. one that stands out is when I was in the 1st grade and my mom and dad took me out of school in Georgia and enrolled me in school in San Antonio Texas where Uncle Jr. was stationed. He and my Aunt Mildred welcomed us into their home for a time. Many memories were made during that time that have lasted me a lifetime. I am so glad that he was part of my life. Jr. was such a kind and loving person and will be missed.

I always enjoyed hearing your travel stories whenever I came over to visit. I still remember eating bowls and bowls of boiled shrimp at the bar in Mableton as a young child over 20 years ago. You played a pivotal role in slowing me down and keeping me out of deep trouble about 10 years ago. I'll always be thankful for that. I'll always cherish the memories of the time we were able to share. Rest assured that you left a powerful legacy and left a positive impact on my life and the lives of many others.
From the very first time I met Junior he made me feel welcome and a part of the family. He was a good person with a beautiful soul and I will miss him.

"The test of religion, the final test of religion, is not religiousness but love - not what I have done, not what I have believed, not what I have achieved, but how I discharged the common charities of life." Dr. Henry Drummond
Thank you for always smiling when you saw me,
and always being sorry to see me leave!
You always made me feel right at home and I'll miss you!
P.S. And thanks for all those Friday morning breakfasts of Bacon, Egg and Cheese on toast!

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay.
-Robert Frost
This world is less with you absent it. I miss you.
When I looked out over the patio tonight I noticed a single star,
With fog so dense you couldn't see the moon, I knew it could only be you.
I stared at you for a while hoping for a reason,
Then realized at that very moment that you weren't gone at all,
In fact you are and always will be alive in our hearts and memories,
Your love is strong Leo,
So strong in fact that it has burned a hole in the fog,
Just so that the light of you can keep us warm and protected at night.
Though night shall fade and day shall come,
I know that you will not have abandoned me,
For you are now my shadow that guides and protects my day,
I know now that I shall never walk alone again,
For you will always be there holding my hand.
One would not think to ever hurt me,
For they will see my Husband at my side,
And know that a man of great stature and power protects me.
I will sleep easy tonight,
Knowing that you are there beside me,
When I feel that extra bit of warmth and security at night,
I know it is but your arms wrapped around me.
I am Never Alone, And You Are Never Forgotten.
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad
They Say…
They say, “I’m sorry for your loss”.
They say “Your heart will mend”.
They say you’re in a better place,
and death is not the end.
They say you’re reunited
with loved ones gone before.
They say that you’ll be waiting
when I walk through heavens door.
I feel their love in every word
of comfort they impart,
and know that each is spoken
from deep within the heart.
But all the words of comfort,
though kind, sincere, and true,
can’t take away the emptiness
I ’m feeling without you. Much love and respect David Shackleford
