Carlos Silva's Obituary
Carlos Jairo “CJ” Silva, age 73, passed away peacefully at WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell on Saturday, January 7, 2017 after a year-long battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Carlos was born on September 12, 1943 in a small coastal town in Colombia. Raised by his mother, he helped support his family by selling fruit as a child. Carlos moved to the United States when he was 19 years old, determined to build a future for himself and his family. In New York City, he married Clara Miñaca, with whom he had four sons. In 1982, Carlos started CJ’s Machine Works in San Antonio, Texas, and became a Blue Ribbon contractor, manufacturing metal component parts for the Department of Defense. He moved to Atlanta in 1999 to open a machine shop with his sons, something he always dreamed of doing. They worked together for 17 years under the name Silvasons Machine Shop. While Carlos’ true passion was working alongside his sons, he also loved dancing to Colombian music, and was complimented on his dancing ability throughout his life. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and entertaining family and friends. He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, performing a great deal of charity work for the organization. Carlos is survived by his loving wife, Estela, sons Carlos Jr., George, Nicholas, and Mark, siblings Ediberto, Alberto, Anibal, Leticia, Joaquin and Aida, grandchildren Briana, Grace and Banks, and dog Herbie. The memorial service will be held at Saint John Vianney in Lithia Springs on Saturday, January 14 at 1:00pm. Reception to follow immediately after at the church’s fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to fight childrens leukemia. https://www.allbloodcancers.org/donate
