Bobby Gene Thomas' Obituary
Bobby Gene Thomas, age 86, of Mableton, GA, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 23, 2022, following an extended illness.
Mr. Thomas was born on May 19, 1936, in the city of Duluth, in Gwinnett County, GA. He was the eldest son of the late Howard Andrew Thomas and Leona Scruggs Thomas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Trotter Thomas, his parents, and his brothers Billy and Ricky Thomas. Surviving Bobby are: his brother and sister-in-law Roy and Brenda Thomas of Monticello, GA, his sister Joyce Thomas Dyer, of Cornelia, GA, his daughter Teresa Robinson of Austell, GA, and sons Robert (Warren) and Timothy Thomas of Tucker and Austell, GA respectively. Other surviving family members include his dear grandsons, Robbie and Alex (Ana) Robinson, Patrick (Gabby), Andrew (Nicole) and Tyler Thomas, and his precious great-granddaughter Elsie Jo Thomas and great-grandson Bobby Carter Thomas.
Bobby lived his entire life in the State of Georgia. He graduated from White County High School in Cleveland, GA, in 1955. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Truett McConnell College in Cleveland, GA and furthered his studies in business and finance at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. At 18 years old, he began his 40+ years banking career at The People’s Bank in Cleveland, GA as a teller, and retired at 62 years old as the Executive Vice President of Georgia State Bank in Mableton, GA.
He was a long-time member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir and sharing his beautiful tenor voice at church, community, and family events. He was a beloved community leader in organizations such as the International Lions Club, and served as a Cobb County Library Trustee for approximately 18 years.
Bobby’s family will be holding a private Celebration of Life event in North Georgia as soon as arrangements can be made. The date and time are still to be determined. Those who wish to be invited to this event may contact the family and request an invitation.
