Betty Jo Thomas' Obituary
Betty Jo Trotter Thomas, educator, and long-time resident of Mableton, Georgia, passed away on October 5, 2016, after an unexpected illness.
Betty was born in Cleveland, Georgia, and graduated from Truett McConnell College, with an Associate’s Degree in Education. Teaching was her calling and she worked in the Cobb County school system for over 30 years in a variety of positions at the middle school level. She was also a passionate advocate for the deaf and hearing impaired and, along with other parents of the deaf and hearing impaired, helped to achieve the mainstreaming of the first deaf children into the Cobb County public education system.
She enjoyed gardening, researching her family’s genealogy, writing, art, computers, and singing in the Mount Harmony Baptist Church choir. She was a kind, loving and spiritual woman, and she will be sorely missed by her friends, family and all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her adoring husband, Bobby G. Thomas, her devoted daughter, Teresa Robinson, her loving sons and their partners: Robert Thomas & Warren Taylor, and Timothy Thomas & Deb D’Cunha; and her five wonderful grandsons and their partners: Robbie Robinson, Patrick & Gabby Thomas, Alex Robinson & Ana Velarde, Andrew Thomas & Nicole Simpson, and Tyler Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Icie Trotter, her brothers, Theodore and Richard, and her sister, Eulene Cooper.
All services for Betty will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at the Davis-Struempf Funeral Home, 1975 East-West Connector, Austell, GA 30106. The public is welcome to join the family for visitation at 2:00 PM, or for her memorial service at 3:00 PM.
