Betty Jo Kyte's Obituary
Betty Jo Kyte, 79, of Pensacola Florida, died on Monday June 17, 2013 at Presbyterian Village-Hearthstone in Austell, Georgia. She was born January 26, 1934 in Six Mile, South Carolina, to Roy and Janie Jones, and lived in Pickens, South Carolina until she competed high school.
She married Eugene C. McLaughlin, Jr. (Scotty) on New Years Day, 1953. Dr. McLaughlin was a naval aviation officer and later a college professor and chairman of the psychology department at Valdosta State University, until he and Jo retired to Pensacola. Jo and Scotty raised a family of two loving daughters, and were happily married until Scotty’s death in 1984. She remained in Pensacola, working as Executive Vice President at AmSouth Bank, until her marriage to Albert David Kyte in 1991. The Kytes traveled extensively, were active in St Thomas More Catholic Church, and lived a wonderful, active life together until David’s death in 2008. Since then, she has resided at Presbyterian Village in Austell, Georgia, near her daughter and family.
Mrs. Kyte passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends who loved and cared for her, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her daughters Pamela (Wayne) Stowers of Marietta, Georgia, and Jan Malory of Fontana, California; grandchildren Paris, Dylan and Jessica Stowers and Kelly Sistrunk; great-grandchildren Sophie and Sawyer Sistrunk; her sister Gladys Norton of Virginia, and many loving nieces and nephews. Her parents, and her brothers and sisters Clarence, Bill, Nell, Ruth, and Ruby preceded her in death.
She will be laid to rest at the military cemetery in Pensacola, Florida with her husbands. There will be a small memorial service at Presbyterian Village Hearth Stone on Thursday, June 27,2013 at 11:00 AM for close friends, caregivers and family.
