Betty Jane Harp's Obituary
Betty Jane Harp, affectionately known as Mawmaw, age 83, of Lithia Springs passed away January 20, 2020. Betty was a long-time member of Unity Baptist Church in Austell. She and her husband, Russell, were quite active within the church and she enjoyed making sure the church was tidy. Betty was a wonderful cook, canner, and preserver who loved to feed her family and friends. Both she and her husband were avid square dancers, and toured different cities with their group. In her retirement, she was an integral part of building their lake house on West Point Lake. Betty will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt who will be dearly missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Spurgeon and Edna Wix; sister, Shirley Ann Garvin; and brothers, Charles Lee Wix and Albert Raymond Wix. Surviving to mourn her passing is her husband of 67 years, Russell Pierce Harp; son, James (Paula Yvonne) Harp of Powder Springs; grandson, Shawn (Victoria) Harp of Acworth; great-grandchildren, Connor and Grant Harp; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25th, 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. Harold Turner officiating. Interment will follow the service at Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery, Dallas, GA. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Betty’s name be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
