Betty Lou and I were brother and sister. I had the opportunity to love and experience her in ways that no other person could on this earth. She was almost 10 years older than me. We really didn’t grow up with each other. Both of our lives were altered due to the death of our father at impressionable ages.
My funniest memories of my sister were when she invited me to spend time with her and Frank each summer for a couple weeks. This was time between my elementary and middle school years. I always looked forward to those occasions. Later, when I was in college between my junior and senior year when I needed to get away from home and school. I asked if I could come and stay with them. I worked for Frank that summer. That for me was valuable for so many reasons. They were very gracious with this college age sibling. To this day I look back on that time as a pivotable time in my emotional maturity. They always said yes to any of these visits!
Throughout the years of raising my own family, my children, Kevin and Kristen, got to know their Aunt Betty Lou. They loved her!!
I personally lost touch with my sister as we grew older. This was a loss, truly! One that cannot be easily explained with words. Hopefully, these photographs can provide some insight where words leave off.
