Barbara Ann McCaslin Hunter's Obituary
Barbara Ann McCaslin Hunter, 86, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, January 25, 2019 in Mableton, Georgia.
Barbara was born in Ft. Payne, Alabama on September 2, 1932 to the late Thomas Dillon McCaslin and Edith Oma McCaslin. She is preceded in death by her brother, Charles “Chic” McCaslin. Barbara graduated from Dekalb County High School in 1950, she then continued her education at Snead State Junior College in Boaz, Alabama. After leaving Snead, Barbara went to Washington, DC to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In 1955 Barbara returned to Fort Payne to marry her sweetheart, James Harris Hunter at Chavies Baptist Church on November 19, 1955. They eventually moved to Mableton where she was a librarian with the Cobb County Public Library in Powder Springs. She was a faithful member of Austell First Baptist for over 55 years.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Harris Hunter, her son Mike and his wife Susan, Douglasville, GA, her daughter, Suzanne Scharf and her husband Stephen, Hoover, AL, four grandchildren, Steven Hunter and his wife Cari, Charlotte, NC, Alyssa Scharf, Vestavia, AL, and Ashley Scharf, Johnson City, TN.
The family will receive friends and family from 2-3 p.m, Sunday, January 27 at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home-1975 East-West Connector, Austell, GA. Graveside service immediately following at Rose Hill Cemetery, Austell, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
