Barbara Louise Griffin's Obituary
Barbara Louise Griffin known to many as Barbie was an extraordinary daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was born in Atlanta Georgia on June 9, 1932 to Frank and Louse Merck. Barbie loved music and displayed that by playing the piano and organ beautifully. She attended Brown High School where she lettered in cheerleading. While she attended school, she was also an office-aid, a member of the corridor patrol and part of the leadership program. She received the Joe Brown Citizenship award in 1947. Barbie had a fierce love for the Lord. While attending church she was the program chairman for Sunday school and sang in the choir. She met the love of her life, John Griffin Senior, also known as PawPaw when she was 17. At the time Barbie was dating his best friend. Pawpaw not long after meeting her, told his friend I am going to marry her one day, and in November of 1953 they were wed. They had 70 beautiful years of marriage. Barbie held many job titles, however the one she was most proud of was Armstrong. She worked there as a short-handed receptionist, after 30 years she retired. She then took a part time job at Six Flags working with season passes, during lunch she would meet Big John who drove the train for lunch. Barbie was the mother of three children, Nanette, Johnny, and Sandy, all who preceded her in death. She would love to tell stories of her adventures to her loved ones, or watch tv shows and movies. Barbie gained her heavenly wings on May 6, 2025, just six days shy of the two year anniversary of her husband. She passed peacefully in the home of her granddaughter Samantha and her family surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 8th, 1:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service 12:30 PM-1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Westview Cemetery.
