Artis W. Eidson Sr.'s Obituary
Artis W. Eidson (Pop), 92, died peacefully surrounded by Nell, his beloved wife of 63 years, and their three children on Sunday, March 11th, shortly before midnight.
Artis, the guiding light and patriarch of the Eidson family had a kind word for everyone he met and genuinely sought to help all people improve their lives.
Originally from Dallas, Georgia, Artis left the farm for service in the Navy, helping the allied forces to win WWII. He served bravely in the Navy on the USS Hall from 1942 to 1945 and participated in the campaign to liberate the South Pacific Islands. Stateside he married the love of his life, Nell Tippens, settling in Cobb County and raising their three children. Artis officially “retired” from International Harvester Co. and then went on to pursue business for himself raising and training the best hunting dogs in the world and running a mechanic shop.
Artis’ attitude and devotion to God was inspiring. He served faithfully as a deacon at Davis Chapel Baptist Church and was a fixture of the community. If you had a broken dog, car, spirit, child, or needed a hand, Artis was there to help. He was a teacher and philosopher that put people at ease with his smile and laugh. Kids and dogs, having the best judgement on the human condition, gravitated towards his warmth and affection.
Artis is survived by his wife, Nell Tippens Eidson, his children, Roni (Keith) Cantrell, Doni (Gary) Rhineheart, Art (Brenda) Eidson, his grandchildren, Jeff (Nancy), Mandy Rhineheart, Tyler (Katherine) King, Cain Cantrell, Austin and Breanna Eidson, great grandchildren, Davis, Audrey, Bennett King, Blake, Brandon, Jayden Rhineheart, siblings, Lettie Eidson Thackston, Wilford Lowell (W.L.) Eidson, Shirley Eidson Thurmond and numerous nieces and nephews. Artis was preceded in death by his siblings, Curtis Joma Eidson, Izetta Eidson Landers, James Douglas Eidson, Perry Lee Eidson Crew, and Fay Eidson Rakestraw.
The family wishes to thank Lucy Persaud and Nicole Smith Artis’ CNA’s who lovingly assisted him the last few months, truly an addition to the Eidson family.
Flowers are accepted, or in lieu of flowers, Shady Grove Baptist Church in Dallas was very dear to Artis' heart. Donations may be made to their building fund in care of Mike Palloni, 445 Vinyard Drive, Dallas, GA 30132.
