Annie Julia Dodd's Obituary
Annie Julia Dodd, age 84 of Mableton passed away May 5, 2015. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 15, 2015 at Davis-Struempf Chapel. The family will recieve friends Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM before the service. Davis- Struempf Funeral Home, Austell.
Annie Julia Dodd was the third child born to Hillman and Velrna
Moore on October 13, 1930 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Annie's
"Fierce and Faithful" love of her family was apparent at an early
age and continued throughout her life.
Annie was quite the athlete in her youth, anchoring her high
school basketball team and maintained a love for the sport all of
her life. Upon completion of high school, Annie left the South on
the "Sunset Limited" and headed West to California to attend City
College while living with her Aunt Geneva. At the age of 20,
Annie married William (Bill) Dodd in San Diego, CA. This
marital union produced three children: Gail, Eleanor, and Sidney.
In 1959, Annie began a career working for the federal government
(North Island Naval Base, USPS, and others) that lasted over 40
years. After retiring in 2000, Annie returned to the New South
(Atlanta) in 2002 where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Annie Julia Dodd leaves to cherish her memory her sister Gladys
Kirksey of Eutaw, AL, Gail Dodd Burnett (daughter) of Fontana,
CA, Eleanor & Danis Hams (daughter/son-in-law) of Mableton,
GA, Sidney & Cathrync Dodd (son/daughter-in-law) of Roswell,
GA; five grandchildren (Nicole Kyles, Andrea Burnett, Elliott
Hollingcr, Ashley Dodd Samiez, and Sidney A. Dodd II), a host of
other relatives, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death
by her husband William Dodd, her sister Edith Moton, and her
sister-in-law Ruth Dodd Moore.
