A couple of hours ago, I started my IBM webex session and waited for Annap to join our regular mentoring session. He has been mentoring me for the past two years. He was always on time. Today, I waited for two minutes and then decided to message him on our internal chat tool. I was very surprised to see that his IBM account is not active anymore.
I presumed he has moved to a different company. I was a little hurt that he missed informing me. I went to LinkedIn and found his profile still showing his current job to be in IBM. I sent him a message on LinkedIn to know more. Then, I decided to search online just in case he has updated any of his other social media profiles.
I was shocked to see an obituary link with his name. I went to the site with my fingers crossed, praying that it should not be him.
I cannot explain the heartbreak and shock seeing his photo. (sob)
After two years of virtual video calls, I had a chance to meet him in person on 25-Apr-2023 in Bangalore. He shared about his new role and project, and I shared about the new changes in my career path. He was a good listener. He was always candid in his advice about career. He would share the learnings from his experience. His discipline and dedication is what I admired the most.
With a heavy heart, I had to cancel all my future meetings with him on my calendar. He has joined a Company where I cannot call him. (sob)
This is not the farewell I was prepared for. (sob)
Rest in peace, Annap! Rest in peace!
My condolences to Annap's family. May God give you the strength to deal with this loss.
