Americo Ciuffardi's Obituary
Americo passed away March 17, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born in Genoa, Italy, but he grew up in Argentina and Uruguay. He served in various public relations and marketing capacities in both countries, as well as Brazil, Chile, Mexico and the Caribbean. He received an MA in Communications. He was a seasoned professional in the fields of ethnic and international public relations. He came to the United States in 1960 as a radio commentator for The Voice of America. He also utilized his skills as a language instructor for the Department of State, interpreter for the Federal Reserve Bank, Director of Communications for Inter-American University and as an assistant to the governor of Puerto Rico. He was fluent in four languages. During the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, he was an interpreter for the Portuguese teams. He was a host of WXIA-TV's "Hispanic Perspective," a Spanish information and variety show.
He traveled the world on the QE2 ship (Cunard) as a dance instructor. He was well known locally in the ballroom dance community. He and his wife also traveled on several international cruises during their marriage. He is survived by his wife of almost 18 years, Karen Richardson.
