Amarelis Velardo Hernandez's Obituary
In the early evening hours of September 30, 1980, God gave Maria Hernandez and Luis Velardo the blessing of becoming the loving parents of Amarelis Arleen Velardo-Hernandez. After 27 long hours of labor, she was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico hinting to the world that she was—a child with an assertive personality and who would show the world her determination to overcome all obstacles to find her place in life:
As the oldest sister of, Anamaris and Adaliz Velardo –Hernandez, she modeled self- confidence, kinship, and leadership. As a daughter she demonstrated love, respect, and honored her parents. As a friend, she showed kindness, empathy, and sympathy. In her role as Kitana’s and Kristian’s mother, she gave undivided attention, unselfish love, and taught them discipline. To her life partner Shannon, Ama embodied honesty, fidelity, and loving affection. She also was a caring aunt and a kind and attentive cousin. Above all, Amarelis was a Christian, a woman who despite all of life’s challenges, remained faithful to our God, the One who carried her through every trial and cheered her on in her accomplishments, through the support of her church and everyone who surrounded her, including Ms. Angela, Gilgal, and Migdalia Roman.
While it was by the grace of God, that Amarelis was born to our family on the last day of September. It is also by His grace that on the first of September, she left this world to rest in the loving and comforting arms of God the Father Almighty, her Creator. Today she lives victoriously in Christ and dwells with the all of God’s saints forever: “For God so loved the world that he have his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16).
Memorial services will be held Sunday, September 10, 2:00 PM at Light of Hope Presbyterian Church in Marietta, with Rev. Edwin Gonzalez-Gertz officiating.
