Alice Stephens' Obituary
Alice Wallace Stephens, 92, passed away at her home on Sunday, April 17, 2011 after an extended illness. Alice was born May 2, 1918 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Nora Landrum Wallace and late William W. Wallace. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Joel Thomas Stephens. She was the last surviving sibling of five brothers and sisters: Walter Wallace, Catherine Stell, Glennie Hay, Lillian Dyar, and Joel Wallace. Alice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was affectionately known by her "grands" as Nanny. She was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress who loved to sew for her children and grandchildren. A long-time member of Davis Chapel Baptist Church, Austell, GA, she was most recently a member of Concord Baptist Church, Mableton, GA. Alice is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Charles Darnell of Austell, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Wanda Stephens of Winston, GA, and Bill and Diane Stephens of Villa Rica, GA; a sister-in-law who was like a daughter, Margaret Stephens Gersten of Fayetteville; grandchildren: Randy Darnell (Renee) of Macon, GA, Pamela Donohue (Rick) of Marietta, GA, Russell Darnell (Frankie) of Mableton, Jana Becker (Kirk) of Acworth, GA, Melanie Stone of Dacula, GA, and Jeff Stephens of Villa Rica, GA. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Serving as Pallbearers will be Randy Darnell, Russell Darnell, Jeff Stephens, Rick Donohue, Kirk Becker, Blake Becker and Ben Darnell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 4 pm until 8 pm. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 am at the chapel of Davis-Struempf. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs, GA.
