Patrick and I would hunt the art stores for the 'perfect' sketchbook. One day he was thinking about 'paper' and the rating system of good, better, best. Since paper and better both end in -er, his new rating system for sketchbook papers was: pape, paper, papest. We would be looking over sketchbooks in the store and tell each other, "Nah, this one is pape" or "Oh yeah, that's the papest!". I still use that system when rating art papers to this day.

I was blessed when I meet Patrick in 2002 where my daughter attended his Art class for 6 years at Austell (Hendricks). He is the most kindest man with the heart of an angel. I think of Mr. Key everyday as my house is still filled with beautiful art work he created with my child. He will forever be in my heart. God bless everyone who knew him and will be devastated by his absence. My prayers are very loud! See you on the other side my dear friend Patrick!!

I saw that face and recognized it immediately after close to 30 years. I went to KSC majoring in art education at the same time as Patrick. He was always such a sweet soul.

Mr. Key was one of the most kind and patient people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
I got to meet this wonderful human in the fall of 2017. He always addressed me as ma'am, and always did his best to not only include my small group class during art. But was always encouraging to them, as well as complimentary of their work.
On top of that, he was always so patient towards the kids that got rowdy during class, even when they talked during lessons, he always spoke in his soft tone and continued to teach, exhibiting so much patience.
One day when I asked him how he could be so patient when they were so rowdy he said "oh they're just kids, they're a good group of kids" made me think a little differently after that.
Shortly before he left work Patrick got nominated for, what we at school call, the motivator of the week. That title could not have gone to a more deserving person! He constantly motivated and empowered staff and students to be a light of positivity.
Mr. Key may you rest in peace knowing that you truly have changed lives and made an impact in your community. And you will be forever missed in these halls!
