I'll treasure the memories of my Aunt Mary and Uncle Cecil. I was so fortunate to get to spend many of my childhood birthdays at their house - they always made me feel loved. I am very sorry I cannot make the trip from Connecticut to be there.
Aunt Mary was absolutely one of a kind. Fun, eager, and oh-so-thoughtful. She would always be the first to send a card for every holiday - and remembered little details unique to you. She never lost her innocence or child-like enthusiasm for the world - a gift. She delighted in all the little things. The colors, the trim work, the envelope, the leaves. She had a passion for many, many things (trains, flowers, owls, architecture, travel, tea, spoons, books, articles, and on and on!) She could catalog everything and anything. She read everything and was curious about everything.
I always thought of her with a lyrical magic like Mary Poppins, and she was as beautiful as Julie Andrews. I will always look fondly on the trip I took with the two of them to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and Aunt Mary's precision of describing each flower.
My sister Ellen and I will greatly miss the two of them - they were such a part of our growing up. Many trips to Atlanta in the backseat with our parents to to see them on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.
I will greatly miss Aunt Mary, but I am glad she is at peace and reunited with her beloved Cecil.
With much love,
Rae Anne (Cook) Locke
