Rosa Julia Rivera, age 69, of Douglasville passed away March 25, 2022. Rosa Julia Pellot Rivera, a name that will forever live in our hearts. She was a mother, a sister, a grandmother, an aunt, and a friend. I’m sure each and every person that crossed her path has something to share on how G-ma, the original OG, touched their lives. She shared a lot of good memories with her family and friends. She was always the one to ask odd questions to start an interesting and funny conversation. People would always just giggle and laugh but she’d keep on asking until she got the answer she wanted. She was always blunt, kept things as they were, “I’m just keeping it real, yo no tengo pelo en la lengua”. She’s been described by others as tenacious, a force of nature, a wrecking ball. But she was also loving, caring, compassionate, and giving. She was a free spirit, a person who if push comes to shove, would knock you out if she had to. She loved to joke around and be silly and could often show you her wild side if she had way too many root beers. She had a lifetime of experience with men, relationships, friends, family, and work. I asked her one time how she knew so much, and she said “cause I been everywhere and did everything”. She lived a life, complete with laughter and sorrow. G-ma was a firm believer in God and always asked questions about the Bible and how things came to be. She would always ask me to put on her merengue gospel and she would begin to clap and praise God. It was hard to see what she was going through, but she was tough. No matter how she was feeling you would always get a little spice out of her. As we gather today, although we will miss her physical presence in our lives, let's not just grieve, but also celebrate her life as it was fully lived. As we talk and visit, let us share our memories, let us remember her as the spicy Puerto Rican real OG that we knew. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 2, 11:00 AM at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 1, from 1:00 to 8:00 PM.
