Rachel Virginia Bowman Eskew, age 90, of Austell passed away September 22, 2020. Rachel was a member of Faith Baptist Temple in Powder Springs. A devoted Christian, who loved witnessing to others, reading her bible and daily devotional every morning and praying for her loved ones. Rachel also loved singing hymns and playing the piano in church and at home. She was truly the definition of what it is to live and breathe what you believe in. Her smile made the day brighter and her laughter was always contagious. Rachel saw the good in everyone and everything. For her, the glass was always half full, and she was there to help lift others up when they were down. Rachel, also known by her family as Jean, Mom and Grandmother, spent her life doing everything for her family. She raised her kids to be good Christians, live life to the fullest, treat others as they would want to be treated, and to be strong and independent. She cherished traditions, cooking and baking for her family put a smile on her face, and her house always smelled of cake batter and southern home cooking. Teaching her grand and great grandkids how to play the piano, sitting around the kitchen table or out on the front porch telling stories of her life and also walking down to the creek looking for her turtles and snakes were some of her favorite times, even up to her last weeks. Those moments will be forever remembered by her loved ones, who she leaves behind. Rachel is preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Harold Richard Eskew, Sr.; her parents, Shelly Butler and Edna Irene Bowman; sister, Annette Bowman; brother, Marvin Bowman; and niece Margo Serrero. She is survived by her children; Harold “Ricky” Eskew, Jr (wife, Jan) of Austell, Stephen Michael Eskew of Austell, and Gail Eskew Moss (husband, Richard) of Hiram; grandchildren, Shay, Erica, Stephen, and Britney; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Maddox, Asher, Beckett, Stella, Owen, Elijah, Olin, Saralyn, Jessica, and Haley; sister, Ruby Rakestraw of Atlanta; half-sisters, Cheryl Harris and Cindy Camp; half-brother, Darius Bowman; nieces, Carmen and Jill; nephews, Danny and Robin; and many beloved extended family members. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 24th, 11:00 am at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Tibbets officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 before the service. Interment will follow the service at Mozley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org or the Shriner’s Burn Center at www. lovetotherescue.org. For those wishing to view the service virtually, Mrs. Eskew’s funeral service will be livestreamed at the above listed time on her Tribute Page at www.davisstruempf.com.
