Lavon Smith Morris Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lavon Smith Morris, age 77, of Marietta passed away surrounded by her family on May 21, 2022. Lavon was born to Hilliard and Mamie Ellen Smith in the Cherokee County area north of Marietta. Once her father joined the service, the family moved to Atlanta and then to Smyrna, where she spent a majority of her childhood, and graduated from Campbell High School. A few months after her graduation, she married her sweetheart, James Morris, in 1963. Lavon had a giving spirit and nothing exemplified that better than her decades of providing in-home childcare to her community. She had a huge impact on the children that she cared for, and continued to stay in contact with them years down the road. While she was in the business of childcare, it was never just a job for her. She took pride in being their caregiver and teacher, and found her true vocation in being called their “Nonnie”. Every dollar she made ended up being invested in her kid’s development, and she never really turned a profit other than the immeasurable and invaluable knowledge that she was touching their lives. Lavon is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, James Louis Morris; sons, James Louis Morris, Jr. (wife, Wendy) of Whitesburg and Steven Todd Morris (wife, Lyndsay) of Powder Springs; siblings, Ronnie L. Smith (wife, Gayle) of Greensboro, Debbie Harper (husband, Jimmy) of Temple, Pennie Davis (husband, Jerry) of Marietta, Tracy Smith (wife, Kacey) of Dallas, and Thomas Smith (wife Cindy) of Lavonia; grandchildren, Bradlee, Kylee, Tatum, Tori, Titus, Lola, Hill, and Callen; great-grandchildren, Brennan and Embree; many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, 11:00 AM at Davis-Struempf Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Morris Private Cemetery, Powder Springs. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
