Charles Lamar Stallings

January 19, 2022

Charles Lamar Stallings, 89, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 surrounded by his family. Born August 25, 1932 in Carroll County, Georgia, Charles was the son of the late Charlie Moses and Orrie Stallings. Charles met the love of his life, Eva Jo Ellis Stallings, on a blind date in Rome, Georgia. They were married in 1954 and remained best friends and by each other’s side for more than 67 years. Charles started his career at the Central of Georgia railroad traveling the southeast. Wanting to be closer to his family he took a job at Barnes Freight Lines followed by Yellow Freight where he worked as a supervisor and general manager for a combination of 41 years. Charles retired at the age of 62 and not a man to sit around, he started volunteering as an usher at Georgia Tech sporting events. Charles was a man of deep faith. He displayed an unwavering commitment to Christ and the Baptist beliefs. He deeply loved his church, Mt. Harmony Baptist, where he attended for 63 years. He served his church in numerous ways including being a deacon for 56 years. Above all was his love for his family. Charles worked hard to provide for them and set an example for them to live by. When he wasn’t supporting his family or serving others Charles had a passion for crappie fishing at Lake Eufaula. He also enjoyed family vacations on Lake Lanier houseboats, coaching basketball, growing vegetable gardens, keeping his car clean, going out for breakfast and socializing. Charles leaves behind his devoted wife, Jo, three children Lynn Greer (Gary), Gail Kelly (Bill) and David Stallings (Angi), grandchildren Jenny Daniel, Matt Daniel (Lindsey), Brian Daniel (Michelle), Zack Kelly, Mitch Stallings and Grant Stallings, and four great-grandchildren Caitlyn, Ryder, Harper and Elliana Daniel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 24, 2022 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, Mableton with Rev. Randal Whitten officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM before the service at the church. Interment will be at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations to be made in memory of Charles Stallings to Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, 561 Veterans Memorial Hwy SE, Mableton, GA 30126.
