Santuzza ("Susan") DePaolis Kuykendall was born in Lecce, Italy, in 1924 the oldest of five children. At the age of 10 she moved with her family to Rome, where her father worked for the government. She lived there until the start of World War II. When her father was called to serve in the war, the family moved back to southern Italy to be with relatives. After her mother died in 1942 she became the head of the family, caring for her 4 siblings. After the war she left Italy and travelled to Germany, where she worked for the Red Cross. There she met Robert. They were married, and in 1958, moved to Alabama, and then to Georgia. Susan, as she was known there, worked as a waitress, in a carnival, and finally opened her own fruits and vegetables business in Louisiana before moving back to Marietta, Georgia, where she lived the rest of her days. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Maria, her mother Stefania, her father Guglielmo, and her loving husband Robert. She is survied by her brother, Carlo, her sisters, Marisa and Teresa, and several neices and nephews
